The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Clare Overmann as its new CEO. Overmann, a longstanding leader in international education with a career spanning two decades, joins AIEA following an impressive tenure working across diverse sectors and cultures. Most recently, as a senior leader at the Institute of International Education (IIE), Overmann directed IIE’s global strategic engagement with higher education institutions, governments, corporations, and foundations. Her role encompassed oversight of IIE’s membership associations, Centers of Excellence, major U.S. government-funded programs, and corporate external affairs.
A recognized expert on academic partnerships, Overmann led the growth and transformation of IIE’s Center for International Partnerships, expanding its flagship International Academic Partnership Program to more than 15 countries. She also served as the inaugural Executive Director of the National Academy for International Education, where she collaborated with hundreds of colleagues globally on publications, trainings, and key convenings. Overmann, a graduate of Georgetown University and New York University, is also engaged in her community, serving on boards at NYU and in Montgomery County, Maryland.
“It is the privilege of a lifetime to serve as CEO of AIEA. International education is more important than ever today, and AIEA is the bedrock for those boldly forging its future,” said Overmann. “I look forward to working together in support of our members, international education, and the globally connected ecosystem we all seek to build.”
