FEDERALLY QUALIFIED HEALTH CENTERS
LEADERSHIP FOR IMPACT
Partnering with Federally Qualified Health Centers and social impact organizations nationwide to address critical leadership needs.

There are over 1,400 Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in the United States, operating as critical safety net providers for over 30 million individuals. These organizations provide comprehensive quality primary care, behavioral health, and dental services—often partnering with other providers and programs focused on important social determinants to the at-risk and underserved. FQHCs operate in a range of locations across the United States and provide comprehensive patient-centered care to underserved and vulnerable populations.
FQHC leaders embody a profound dedication to the underserved alongside vital expertise in both business and healthcare leadership. Given the rapidly changing healthcare payment and delivery market and new regulatory requirements, many long-time and often beloved founding leaders are retiring. FQHC boards are unique in that they are required to be over 50 percent consumers, reflecting the population they serve. This composition means many of these board members have never experienced a leader new to the organization and are often not prepared for the succession process or the transition itself.
While some boards choose to identify a new CEO independently, many seek assistance through a search firm. WittKieffer has seasoned consultants who have conducted numerous searches for FQHCs across the nation. Our clients range from large, densely populated urban centers to modestly-sized organizations serving in need and isolated populations.
Each FQHC is unique in its program and service offerings, culture, financial status, and populations served. Our consultants partner with FQHC boards, gaining a comprehensive view of the institution first and then working to find the best candidate suited to serve the organization and community.
Our consultants understand the challenges and opportunities for these organizations and are well-networked and recognized among community health center leaders.
