Santa Clara University has named T. Shá Duncan Smith as its inaugural vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion. Duncan Smith comes to Santa Clara from Swarthmore College, where she served as the assistant vice president and dean of inclusive excellence and community development. She joined Swarthmore in 2016, after serving as the director of diversity and inclusion at the University of Michigan Ross School of Business. She was also the Intercultural programs manager for the University of Michigan’s Center for Global and Intercultural Study, the coordinator of diversity initiatives and academic support for the University of Michigan’s School of Public Health, and held various other roles at the University of Michigan. Duncan Smith has also served on the teaching faculty for the University of Southern California’s Race & Equity Center Equity Institutes.
In her new role, Duncan smith will help shape the future of diversity, equity and inclusion for Santa Clara’s more than 8,600 students, over 900 faculty, over 1,050 staff members and more than 104,000 living alumni.
