The University of North Carolina appointed Magnus Egerstedt as executive vice chancellor and provost. Egerstedt served as dean of engineering at the University of California, Irvine, and professor in electrical engineering and computer science. His research focuses on the control and coordination of large-scale robotic networks, with applications in environmental monitoring, disaster response, and sustainable infrastructure. 
Prior to UC Irvine, Egerstedt held the Julian T. Hightower Chair at Georgia Institute of Technology and co-founded the Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines. He earned a master’s degree in engineering physics and a Ph.D. in applied mathematics from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, along with a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Stockholm University. He also completed postdoctoral work at Harvard University.
