The Peralta Community College District has appointed Sharon “Jamila” Buckner, MS, as Vice Chancellor of Human Resources.
Buckner brings over 20 years of executive HR experience across nonprofit, private, and public sectors, with a focus on transformational change, inclusive cultures, and strategic talent development. She is an alumna of Laney and Merritt Colleges, giving her a personal connection to the district’s mission and community.
Most recently, she served as Chief People Officer, Equity & Inclusion at the SF Marin Food Bank, and previously held leadership roles at Accion Opportunity Fund, Golden Gate University, and Saint Mary’s College of California.
As Vice Chancellor, Buckner will oversee benefits, risk management, and employee relations, with a focus on building an equitable and high-performing workforce aligned with Peralta’s strategic goals.
She holds a Master of Science in Human Resources Management from Golden Gate University and a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from Saint Mary’s College of California. Buckner is also active in community organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
