The American Hospital Association (AHA) has appointed Steve Walsh as president and chief executive officer. Walsh joined the organization from the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA), where he served as president and CEO.
Walsh brings more than two decades of healthcare leadership experience with a focus on strengthening the healthcare workforce, reducing health disparities and advancing coordinated care. At MHA, he built coalitions among providers, payers and policymakers and advocates for improved access to care on behalf of more than 70 hospital and health system members.
Prior to joining MHA, Walsh served six terms in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, including as chair of the House Committee on Health Care Financing. He helped lead passage of the state’s landmark 2012 healthcare reform law, which encouraged alternative payment models, investment in community health and greater patient engagement.
Walsh is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has been recognized by Boston Magazine and Modern Healthcare among the most influential leaders in healthcare. He earned degrees from Wesleyan University, the New England School of Law and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
