Nicklaus Children's Health System (Nicklaus Children’s) and Florida International University (FIU) seek an inaugural Chair of Pediatrics and Pediatrician-in-Chief to play a critical leadership role in the newly formed partnership that will expand pediatric training opportunities, enhance patient care, and strengthen research in South Florida and beyond. This is an excellent leadership position to unite two cornerstone institutions with a shared purpose to improve the health and well-being of the community's children.
Located in Miami, Florida and named after PGA Professional Golfer Jack Nicklaus, Nicklaus Children’s is a private, nonprofit health system comprised of a Level-I pediatric trauma center and a 325-bed flagship hospital. It includes Nicklaus Children's Hospital, as well as a network of outpatient and urgent care centers, the Nicklaus Children's Hospital Foundation, Nicklaus Children's Pediatric Specialists (NCPS) – a multi-specialty physician group, an ambulatory surgery center, and Children’s Health Ventures, a for-profit subsidiary. With net patient revenue exceeding $1 billion, the System includes approximately 850 attending physicians and more than 390 pediatric subspecialists.
With a student body of nearly 54,000, Florida International University (FIU) is among the top 10 largest universities in the nation and has collectively graduated more than 200,000 alumni; 115,000 of whom live and work in the region. As the face of the country's future in higher education demographics, FIU is a majority-minority institution and the first and only public research university in Miami-Dade County. It serves as South Florida's anchor institution and is a solutions center for the world's toughest challenges.
This inaugural role will be responsible for recruiting and maintaining an exceptional caliber of faculty talent throughout the Department. This individual will work with Nicklaus Children's and FIU to provide clinical strategic guidance and decision making on patient care and strive for continuous improvement in the quality of care while also leading efforts to maximize efficiency. The Chair will partner with research leaders to continue FIU's strong commitment to innovation and translational research and will be a staunch advocate for world-class education programs that are rigorous and innovative. Advocacy for children is also central to the Department and the Chair will play an active role in setting the advocacy agenda for Nicklaus Children's.
This leader will be an individual who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, and the leadership to engage and develop faculty. They will be a leader who demonstrates the collaborative ability to work well with multiple partners and stakeholders. The Pediatrician-in-Chief will have a thorough understanding and ability to work within a complex children's health system and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills to serve the region. The candidate must possess an MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree, meet the requirements to practice clinically within the state of Florida and be board certified in pediatrics.
