Texas Medical Association
Austin, Texas - United States
The Texas Medical Association (TMA) seeks a visionary, relationship-oriented, and strategically minded executive to serve as its next Executive Vice President/Chief Executive Officer (EVP/CEO). This leadership transition follows the planned retirement of Michael Darrouzet, who has guided the organization through a period of significant growth, influence, and advocacy success. Representing more than 60,000 physicians, residents, and medical students through a statewide network of 110 county medical societies, the TMA is the largest state medical society in the nation and has been the trusted voice of Texas medicine since 1853.
Partnering closely with physician leadership, the Board of Trustees, House of Delegates, county medical societies, and professional staff, the EVP/CEO will lead one of the country's most influential physician organizations during a period of unprecedented change. The next leader will be responsible for advancing the TMA's mission, strengthening member value, guiding advocacy and public policy efforts, and ensuring the organization remains responsive to the evolving needs of physicians across all specialties and practice settings. This role requires a highly collaborative executive who respects physician-led governance, builds consensus among diverse stakeholders, and can articulate a compelling vision for the future of organized medicine in Texas.
The EVP/CEO will oversee a multifaceted enterprise that includes advocacy and government affairs, physician practice support, continuing medical education, membership engagement, marketing and communications, public health initiatives, community outreach programs, conferences and events, and philanthropic activities through the TMA Foundation. The next leader will have the opportunity to strengthen the TMA's value proposition, cultivate the next generation of physician leaders, expand strategic partnerships, advance physician well-being, and position the organization for long-term relevance and sustainability. Success will require balancing the TMA's longstanding advocacy mission with an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to organizational effectiveness, member engagement, and financial stewardship.
This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a highly respected organization with a rich history, strong financial foundation, and unmatched influence across Texas healthcare. The next EVP/CEO will help shape healthcare policy, advance physician leadership, expand strategic partnerships, and ensure the TMA remains the unified voice of medicine for future generations. Through visionary leadership and deep stakeholder engagement, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in improving the health of Texans while supporting physicians in the practice of medicine.
