The University of Rwanda (UR) is the nation’s flagship public university and a critical driver of Rwanda’s social, economic, and intellectual development. Established in 2013 through the merger of 14 higher education institutions, including the former National University of Rwanda, nursing schools and teacher-training colleges, it was created as part of a bold national vision to build a world-class institution capable of advancing Rwanda’s ambitions. Today, the University serves a diverse, 30,000 strong student community across multiple campuses and disciplines, combining a strong commitment to academic excellence across teaching and research with public purpose and impact.
The University is now seeking to appoint a new Vice Chancellor who will be responsible for shaping the institution’s strategic vision and delivering its long-term priorities. Reporting to the governing board, the Vice Chancellor will provide leadership across all aspects of academic, research, financial and operational performance, championing excellence and inspiring staff and students. As the University’s chief spokesperson, the postholder will represent UR nationally and internationally, strengthen its reputation and partnerships, engage closely with government and policy leaders, and help to secure the resources needed to advance the University’s mission. The Vice Chancellor will also lead the University’s senior decision-making structures, including the Academic Senate.
