Southeast, Michigan – McLaren Health Care (McLaren) seeks an accomplished, collaborative physician executive to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for McLaren Flint Hospital. The CMO will advance clinical excellence, patient safety, physician engagement, and organizational performance in alignment with McLaren Health Care’s strategic priorities.
McLaren Flint is a 378-bed tertiary teaching hospital located in Flint, Michigan, serving greater Genesee County and the Mideast region of Michigan. McLaren Flint serves as the system’s flagship facility providing a comprehensive range of advanced services, including emergency medicine, Level III trauma care, comprehensive stroke care, heart and vascular care, cancer care, orthopedic surgery, diagnostic imaging, primary care, and other key clinical programs. McLaren Flint is affiliated with Michigan State University College of Human Medicine through medical residency and fellowship programs.
Serving as McLaren Flint Hospital’s senior physician executive, the CMO will connect system-wide strategy with local execution. Reporting to the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of McLaren Health Care, with a dotted line to the President and Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Flint, this leader will partner with medical staff, nursing, quality, patient safety, regulatory, compliance, operational, and system leaders to strengthen quality, safety, service, and value.
Key priorities include improving quality outcomes, supporting credentialing and privileging, advancing provider professionalism and performance improvement, and driving progress on reputational indicators such as Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, CMS Star Ratings, and the Top 100 Program.
The successful candidate will be a trusted physician leader with a record of advancing quality, engaging physicians, strengthening clinical performance, and influencing across a complex, matrixed health care environment. The CMO will bring sound clinical judgment, operational acumen, strong communication skills, and the ability to build effective relationships across McLaren Health Care and McLaren Flint Hospital. Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, current or eligible physician licensure in Michigan, board certification in an ABMS-recognized specialty, and significant clinical and physician leadership experience. Advanced training in business, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.
