UT Southwestern Medical Center seeks a visionary, strategic, and highly accomplished healthcare leader to serve as its next Assistant Vice President, Radiation Oncology (AVP). Reporting jointly to the Chair of Radiation Oncology and the Chief Operating Officer of UT Southwestern Health System, the AVP serves as the senior administrative leader for the Department of Radiation Oncology and for Radiation Oncology services across the health system. Far more than a traditional department administrator, the AVP provides leadership for a sophisticated clinical enterprise spanning all operational aspects, including alignment of the department's clinical, research, educational, and operational missions. As an important strategic partner to the Chair, the AVP will help advance a bold vision to transform cancer treatment, accelerate scientific innovation, and expand patient access.
UT Southwestern Medical Center is one of the nation’s premier academic medical centers, especially well known for the quality of its science, outstanding clinical care, and a fundamental commitment to integrating pioneering biomedical research with clinical care and education. The medical center’s faculty includes many distinguished scientists, including 26 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 18 members of the National Academy of Medicine, and 14 Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigators. Since 1985, six members of the UTSW faculty have received Nobel Prizes.
The UT Southwestern Department of Radiation Oncology is part of the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center in North Texas. It is among the largest and most technologically advanced radiation oncology practices in the United States. The Department comprises more than 100 faculty members, 500 FTEs, four divisions and sections, more than 20 radiation oncology and medical physics residents and fellows, and multiple clinical sites. It has revenues approaching $200 million and research expenditures exceeding $15 million. The Department is entering a new era of innovation, and the next AVP will play a central role in transforming these pioneering ideas into operational reality.
UT Southwestern seeks an accomplished healthcare executive who combines strategic vision with operational excellence and has the intellectual curiosity to thrive in a highly innovative academic environment. The successful candidate will have at least eight years of progressively responsible leadership experience in healthcare administration, academic medicine, cancer services, or a related healthcare environment. The candidate will also have experience partnering effectively with physician leaders and faculty in an academic health system, integrated delivery system, cancer center, or comparable healthcare organization. While experience in radiation oncology is valued, UT Southwestern is equally interested in exceptional candidates from other complex academic, oncology, or specialty healthcare environments.
