McLaren Health Care (McLaren) seeks a dynamic, transformative, and collaborative physician executive to serve as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for McLaren Bay Region in Bay City, Michigan. This is a critical leadership role for an accomplished physician leader who will advance clinical excellence, patient safety, physician engagement, and organizational performance in alignment with McLaren Health Care’s strategic objectives. McLaren Bay Region is a 389-bed acute tertiary care hospital serving patients across the Great Lakes Bay Region and plays an essential role in advancing access, quality, and coordinated care for a service area of nearly 500,000 people.
As McLaren Bay Region’s senior physician executive, the CMO will serve as a key facilitator between system-wide strategy and local implementation. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President and Chief Clinical Officer of McLaren Health Care, with a dotted line to the President and Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Bay Region, the CMO will work closely with medical staff leaders, nursing, quality, patient safety, regulatory, compliance, operational, and system leadership teams to ensure high performance in quality, safety, service, and value. This leader will be accountable for quality outcomes, credentialing and privileging, provider professionalism, performance improvement, and support of value-based care initiatives, including progress on Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, CMS Star Ratings, and the Top 100 Program.
The successful candidate will be an accomplished physician executive with a demonstrated record of leading quality improvement, engaging physicians, strengthening clinical performance, and influencing across a complex, matrixed health care environment. This leader will bring strong communication skills, sound clinical judgment, operational acumen, and the ability to align local priorities with system-wide goals while building effective relationships with the McLaren Health Care system and across the Bay Region. Candidates must possess an M.D. or D.O. degree, current or eligible physician licensure in Michigan, board certification in an ABMS-recognized specialty, and significant clinical and physician leadership experience. Advanced training in business, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field is preferred.
