Reporting to Risk Management leadership, the Assistant Director of Risk Management will serve as a key clinical and operational leader responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risk across the organization. This role is central to advancing patient safety initiatives, promoting adherence to standards of care, and reducing organizational liability. The Assistant Director will oversee and support daily risk management operations, provide guidance and mentorship to staff, and serve as a departmental lead in the absence of the Director. Key responsibilities include the review and analysis of occurrence reports, identification of trends and risk patterns, oversight of Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), and development of strategies designed to prevent future events and strengthen organizational performance.
Working collaboratively with clinical and administrative leadership, the Assistant Director will serve as a trusted resource across the health system, addressing complex clinical and legal concerns, supporting investigations of potential claims, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting requirements, including The Joint Commission and the New York State Department of Health. This leader will help coordinate reporting obligations, support policy and program development, advance staff education initiatives, and contribute to the implementation of organization-wide risk reduction strategies. Through the effective use of data, analytics, and evidence-based practices, the Assistant Director will help drive continuous improvement efforts that enhance quality, safety, and operational effectiveness.

The Assistant Director will play an integral role in strengthening risk management infrastructure, aligning practices with industry best standards, and promoting collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. Ideal candidates will bring a clinical background, deep expertise in healthcare risk management, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a demonstrated capacity to lead effectively within a complex healthcare environment. EHS’s Assistant Director of Risk Management will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes, organizational integrity, and the continued advancement of EHS’s mission to serve vulnerable communities with excellence and compassion. The expected salary range is $185,000 to $200,000. The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range. Compensation takes into account several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training, and organizational needs.
