Wellstar Health System, one of Georgia's largest and most integrated healthcare systems, is seeking a highly strategic, visionary leader to serve as the system-wide Vice President of Real Estate and Facility Development (VP). This is an exciting time to join a growing organization as it expands its footprint and advances high-quality, patient-centered care. The VP will play a critical role in shaping the system’s physical infrastructure and aligning it with Wellstar’s long-term strategic priorities.
Wellstar is a nonprofit, multi-site health system with more than $7 billion in revenues, a growing health plan, and over 400 care locations across Georgia. The organization employs more than 30,000 team members, including 6,000 nurses and more than 3,000 physicians and advanced practitioners. Wellstar is the only health system in the metropolitan Atlanta market with Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 trauma centers, enabling care for the region’s most complex patients. Wellstar is currently engaged in significant growth through an ongoing $1.4+ billion expansion across Georgia, highlighted by a new $1 billion hospital approved in Acworth and multi-million dollar additions in Paulding, Columbia, and Spalding counties.
The VP will oversee a multi-billion-dollar real estate and facilities portfolio, ensuring assets are aligned with clinical, operational, and financial priorities. This role offers the opportunity to drive standardization, operational efficiency, and long-term value across a rapidly expanding enterprise.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Ambulatory & Business Development, the VP will lead all real estate, facilities, engineering, and construction functions across the organization. Responsibilities include oversight of facilities operations, maintenance, construction, and real estate strategy across hospitals, ambulatory sites, and corporate properties. The VP will partner with executive leadership to align capital investments with system priorities and oversee the full lifecycle of construction projects. This leader will standardize processes, streamline vendor relationships, enforce disciplined procurement, and provide strategic guidance on site selection and portfolio planning, while representing the organization on major capital initiatives and engaging with senior leadership and the board.
The successful candidate will bring a data-driven approach to improving operational performance and resource utilization, including optimizing space, reducing energy use, and strengthening team effectiveness. This individual will have experience in large complex health systems, with expertise in construction management, engineering, and real estate strategy. The VP must be effective in a matrixed environment, able to influence stakeholders, and build strong relationships across the organization. A commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability is essential, along with the ability to manage risk and deliver results that support Wellstar’s continued growth.
