WittKieffer is leading the search to recruit the next Chief Executive Officer of CalOptima Health. CalOptima Health is one of the nation's largest public managed care health plans, serving more than 800,000 Orange County residents through Medi-Cal, OneCare (Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan), and PACE programs. The new CEO will lead a highly respected and financially strong organization dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective healthcare services to the communities it serves. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the CEO will work closely with an experienced executive leadership team, community partners, providers, regulators, and elected officials to advance the organization's mission and strategic priorities. This leader will be responsible for providing overall strategic, operational, and financial leadership while safeguarding CalOptima Health's reputation as a trusted community partner and steward of public resources.

The organization is helping shape the future of healthcare delivery in California through CalAIM implementation, expanded investments in providers, and plans to launch a Covered California product beginning in 2027. Recent Board-approved investments of nearly $1 billion in provider reimbursement are designed to strengthen Orange County's healthcare safety net, improve access to specialty care, and support provider sustainability. The next CEO will have the opportunity to guide the organization through a rapidly evolving healthcare landscape while balancing innovation, growth, fiscal stewardship, and member-centered care.
CalOptima Health seeks a strategic, collaborative, relationship-oriented leader with strong financial acumen, political savvy, and exceptional communication skills. The successful candidate will possess significant executive leadership experience within a large, complex healthcare organization. Experience with Medicaid and Medicare Advantage managed care is strongly preferred. The ideal leader will have a demonstrated ability to work effectively with governing boards, public agencies, providers, and community stakeholders while leading high-performing teams and maintaining a culture of accountability, transparency, and service excellence.
The current hiring range for this position is $560,000 to $841,500 annually ($269.23-$404.57 per hour). Final compensation will be determined based on education, job-related experience, skills, and internal equity. A comprehensive executive benefits package will also be provided.
