Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking advancement leader to serve as Assistant Dean of Advancement for the Pamplin College of Business. Reporting dually to the Dean of the Pamplin College of Business and the Senior Vice President of Advancement, the Assistant Dean serves as the College’s chief advancement officer, providing strategic vision, leadership, and execution for Pamplin’s integrated advancement enterprise, including development, alumni engagement, and advancement communications.
The Pamplin College of Business is entering a period of strong momentum, guided by a strategic plan focused on academic excellence, research growth, organizational effectiveness, and expanded industry partnerships. Its advancement program is already generating approximately $16 million annually in new gifts and commitments, with significant room for growth. The Assistant Dean of Advancement will lead a healthy, expanding operation and play a key role in shaping the College’s next phase of philanthropic impact and national visibility.
As a key member of the Dean’s cabinet, the Assistant Dean of Advancement will serve as a strategic partner to College leadership, helping to translate academic and institutional priorities into compelling advancement strategies. This leader will work closely with the Dean, associate deans, department heads, faculty leaders, alumni, donors, and volunteers to advance philanthropic support across the College’s priorities. The role includes personally managing a selective portfolio of major and principal gift prospects, strengthening cultivation and stewardship strategies, advancing corporate and industry engagement, and fostering meaningful connections with alumni and volunteer leadership.
