Neptune, New Jersey – Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) is seeking an accomplished, engaging and visionary physician leader to serve as Chair, Department of Medicine – Jersey Shore University Medical Center (JSUMC) & Southern Region. This is an outstanding opportunity for a physician leader to help advance and shape a dynamic, progressive health system and to positively impact the health of patients, families and communities throughout the Southern Region.
As one of three academic medical centers and the second largest hospital within the HMH network, JSUMC has been leading the way in providing quality care for more than 100 years. Located in Neptune, New Jersey, JSUMC is a 656-bed tertiary care hospital serving as the only Level I Adult and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and Level III Perinatal Center in Monmouth and Ocean counties.
The Department of Medicine is dedicated to excellence in clinical care, education, as well as research and scholarly pursuit. Comprising thirteen divisions, 372 physicians (employed, independent and aligned), and 14 advanced practice professionals, the Department has an extremely strong clinical and educational culture, a collegial spirit of working together and strong emphasis on service in the delivery of high quality, patient-centered care.
Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer, the Chair will be responsible for aligning the departmental goals with the medical center's strategic priorities and fostering a collaborative and high-quality clinical environment for the providers across the Southern Region. The Chair will bring a strong commitment to setting forth and implementing a unified department to create an environment characterized by exceptional quality, teamwork, and positive relationships. The Chair will capitalize on opportunities to advance clinical services across the Medical Center and Southern Region as they grow ambulatory services. Within the integrated health system, the Chair will support a strategic plan that will advance the department of internal medicine aligned with the objectives of the health system and medical staff, creating a cohesive culture.
The next Chair will establish themselves as a visible, approachable individual with a transparent, proactive communication style, with the ability to build trust across a broad range of internal and external constituents. The ideal candidate will have a track record of success in recruitment, mentorship/development, improving operational performance, and enhancing culture while developing excellent provider relationships in a highly complex system and expansive geographical environment.
An MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent degree and current board certification in Medicine or one of the Medicine subspecialties are required. Given the strong focus on academic development, current academic rank commensurate with Associate Professor or Professor is preferred. The Chair will maintain a component of clinical activity in conjunction with administrative duties. An advanced degree in healthcare or a business-related field is desired. The expected compensation for this position is $560,000 annually. The exact compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, education, and overall qualifications.
