Rochester, NY – University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD) seeks a transformational and visionary Senior Associate Dean of Medical School Education (Senior Associate Dean) who will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of medical education. This physician leader will advance the institution’s connected missions of patient care, education, research, and service to the community. Through innovative teaching methods and student/faculty engagement, this leader will elevate a robust learning experience and maintain URMC’s reputation as a national leader in medical education.
The Senior Associate Dean will continue the SMD's rich legacy of educational excellence rooted in the Rochester Biopsychosocial Model, and will be responsible for advancing leadership, effective management, and administration of the medical student program leading to the M.D. degree. The Senior Associate Dean will build bridges to facilitate and ensure the quality of the medical student program and achieve the strategic objectives of the medical school and the university.
Applicants must have an M.D. and a substantial record of leadership, mentorship, and achievement in academic medicine. This leader will have the ability to oversee successful reaccreditation, including with the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME). The next Senior Associate Dean should have a demonstrated record of innovation in medical education and facilitating cross-disciplinary connections to advance medical education and experience of students and faculty. Further, a sophisticated understanding of workforce trends, resource planning, and the evolving dynamics of sponsored research funding will be essential to stewarding educational programs through a period of transformation and growth. The successful candidate will be a systems thinker, collaborative leader, and superb communicator who can develop the future of the field of medicine in a matrixed leadership environment.

The pay range for this position is $375,000 – $475,000. The referenced pay range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the base range of compensation for this position. Individual salaries will be determined within the job’s salary range and established based on (but not limited to) market data, experience, and expertise of the individual, and with consideration to related position salaries. Alignment of clinical incentive-based compensation may also be applicable and will be discussed during the hiring process.
