Director of Usher Institute
University of Edinburgh
Edinburgh - United Kingdom
The University of Edinburgh is a world-leading centre of academic excellence committed to making a significant, sustainable and socially responsible contribution to Scotland, the UK and beyond. In the top 25 of the QS World Rankings, in one of the world’s most beautiful cities, the University provides a first-class education for over 49,000 students across its programmes of study – undergraduate and postgraduate, on-site and distance learning.
Conducting transformative research that impacts upon healthcare, the Usher Institute improves the health and wellbeing of patients, communities and populations locally and globally. The University of Edinburgh has a long history in this area, giving the world the disciplines of academic primary care and public health, and the Usher Institute is fundamentally rooted in these community-based applied translational sciences. The Institute brings together a critical mass of researchers with expertise in epidemiology, statistics and modelling, informatics, computer science, clinical science, sociology, social policy, governance, ethics, politics, medical law psychology, economics, geography, health promotion and medicine to create a truly interdisciplinary research institute.
The Director will be an established, senior research leader with an international reputation, who has the leadership skills to drive the Institute’s future strategy in direct alignment with the College and the University of Edinburgh’s research, teaching and knowledge translation ambitions. The successful candidate will manage a collaborative and high-performing team of principal investigators who are focused on understanding disease, delivering knowledge exchange and translation towards societal impact or clinical benefit for patients.
Building synergy across the Institute and the wider organisation in which it sits, the appointed post- holder will accelerate this research work and provide leadership on teaching. They will be a member of the College senior leadership team and report directly to the Head of College.
