The African School of Governance (ASG) is a newly established, independent, pan-African graduate professional school situated in Kigali, Rwanda, seeking to offer a unique blend of world-class public policy and leadership education, research, and policy engagement that embraces its distinctive African identity.
Established in 2024, ASG was born from the vision of African leaders seeking to cultivate the next generation of scholars, professionals and leaders. The school aims to equip individuals with the necessary skills and mindset to tackle the major governance challenges facing Africa and the world in the 21st century and beyond.
As such, there is a need to appoint a passionate and distinguished individual to join their faculty in the role of Professor / Associate Professor. This position will play a pivotal role in building a world-class institution from a foundational perspective; develop and deliver engaging courses through a distinctively African lens; contribute to cutting-edge research that addresses key issues facing the continent and become part of a vibrant intellectual community of scholars and practitioners passionate about Africa’s future.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Vice Dean of Academics & Research in order to support the overall academic excellence of the school in addition to collaborating with Research Heads to construct and roll out a leading research ecosystem for the entire institution. The appointee will also act as a mentor to the more junior faculty, guiding them when necessary and setting an impeccable example in every regard.
Ideal candidates will have a strong connection to Africa, a deep understanding of the continent’s unique challenges and opportunities as well as being able to demonstrate a substantial background of applied research in an area relevant to Public Policy eg. Political Economy, Governance, Politics, Economics, Security Studies etc. Demonstratable experience in applying their knowledge and expertise to tackle and/or shape public policy and governance in an African context is especially favourable.
Individuals who are able to work fluidly in a start-up environment will excel in this position.
The position would require full, on campus presence in Kigali, Rwanda.
