WittKieffer are advising the University of Hong Kong’s Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine (HKUMed) on the appointment of a new Head of Department of Anaesthesiology.
HKUMed is the largest faculty in the University. It comprises 14 departments, five schools three education-oriented units and a number of research centres, with around 450 full-time academic staff and 1,500 research and research-related support personnel. At present, there are approximately 3,300 undergraduate and 1,600 postgraduate students. HKUMed sets the benchmark for excellence in Hong Kong and Asia, and it currently ranks 13th globally in the 2023 Times Higher Education Rankings.
The Department of Anaesthesiology collaborates with Queen Mary Hospital, a tertiary referral centre and each year the department administers more than 10,000 anaesthetics, delivers care to more than 4,000 pain patients, and provides obstetric services for 5000 deliveries. They cover a wide range of subspecialty areas: including organ transplantation, pain medicine, regional anaesthesia, neuroanaesthesia and paediatric anaesthesia.
HKUMed are seeking applicants that are medically qualified and have a strong interest in research, preferably with a postgraduate research degree. Applicants should also demonstrate evidence of international recognition of clinical excellence; proven achievements in research; a strong commitment to, and excellence in, teaching medical students and training residents; and the ability to contribute to undergraduate curriculum development. The appointee will teach, organise and develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes; conduct high-quality scholarly research; provide clinical service and patient care; and contribute to administrative duties in the Department Faculty and wider University.
