Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer
Valleywise Health
Phoenix, AZ - United States
Valleywise Health, one of the most respected public teaching hospitals and safety net health care systems in the country, is seeking a collaborative and forward-thinking technology leader to serve as its next Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer (CIO). Located in Phoenix, this is an excellent opportunity to support a growing, mission-driven institution inclusive of a new flagship medical center that is presently in the process of opening.
Among its many awards and recognitions, Valleywise Health was named one of the 100 Top Hospitals in the nation by Watson Health. The system includes Valleywise Health Medical Center with 325 beds, three behavioral health hospitals with 433 beds, the Arizona Burn Center, and a network 9 Federally Qualified Community Health Centers and two Comprehensive Health Centers located throughout Maricopa County. Valleywise Health Medical Center was recently the only hospital in Arizona to receive an “Everest Award,” which recognizes hospitals that have earned the “100 Top Hospitals” designation and ranked among the top 100 hospitals in the nation for fastest rate-of-improvement during a five-year period.
The CIO will lead strategic growth initiatives and drive the innovation of Valleywise’s IT services, aligning them with the organization’s strategic priorities and future goals. Priorities include continued enhancements of Epic, including assessing Refuel projects and potential new modules, growing the organization’s analytics capabilities and developing a patient-centered digital strategy, including a more user-friendly digital front door experience. This is an exciting time to join this growing health system, which is opening a new teaching hospital in Summer 2024. The incoming CIO will be instrumental in ensuring that technology enhances the overall operations of the new building and will lead continued optimization efforts.
The ideal candidate is an emotionally intelligent and visionary IT leader with a proven track record of leading transformative initiatives within a complex health system. Collaboration and effective communication are essential traits, as the CIO will work closely with teams across the organization, fostering strong relationships and promoting a culture of teamwork.
A genuine passion for health equity and a strong mission orientation must be coupled with a system-thinking mindset that prioritizes continuous improvement and innovation. The successful candidate will enthusiastically embrace challenges, driving forward-thinking strategies that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
