Vice President for Enrollment and Student Finance
Rutgers the State University of New Jersey
New Brunswick, NJ - United States
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, one of the oldest and largest higher education institutions and one of the most-diverse public research institutions in the United States, invites nominations and applications for an experienced, visionary, and customer service-oriented enrollment professional to serve as the inaugural Vice President for Enrollment and Student Finance.
Rutgers is a leading national research university; the state land-grant institution; and New Jersey’s preeminent, comprehensive public institution of higher education. Rutgers serves approximately 70,000 students from all 50 states and 130 countries and employs more than 8,700 faculty and 14,900 staff. The University has 29 schools and colleges that collectively operate across three geographic centers and in each of the state’s 21 counties. Rutgers University – New Brunswick, an R-1 institution in central New Jersey, is a member of the Association of American Universities and the Big Ten Academic Alliance. Rutgers University – Camden, a leading R-2 and community-engaged Minority Serving institution (AANAPISI) in south New Jersey, provides a world-class academic experience in intimate settings steps from Philadelphia; while Rutgers University – Newark, just outside New York City, is a diverse, urban institution, equally designated as an R-2, Minority Serving institution (AANAPISI & HSI), and a committed and active anchor institution of its home city.
Three of the University’s chancellor units — in New Brunswick, Camden, and Newark — rank in the top 50 public universities, according to U.S. News & World Report. Rutgers Health is a statewide academic health care provider organization that is home to eight of the University’s schools and an array of centers and institutes focused on biomedical, clinical, and translational research across the breadth of scientific inquiry. The more than 1,300 health professionals who serve as Rutgers-affiliated clinicians see more than 2.8 million patients annually. One of the largest employers in the state, Rutgers is consistently ranked among the best places to work.
Student success is Rutgers’ “North Star,” and, in creating the Vice President for Enrollment and Student Finance role, the University seeks to integrate university enrollment and student financial services across central administration and all four chancellor units to foster student access, affordability, and success. The Vice President will be the architect of a new vision, strategy, and operational execution for fresh organizational structures that promote customer service; ensure compliance with appropriate laws and regulations; and position the office to effectively take on numerous projects associated with admissions and financial aid, tied through Project Cornerstone, specifically, the Student Experience Improvement Initiative, and the upcoming student information system project. The Vice President is well situated to make bold and significant changes to achieve ambitious goals as the role reports to the Executive Vice President – Chief Financial Officer & University Treasurer and serves as a member of the President’s Administrative Council.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced enrollment management and student finance professional who possesses a keen understanding of higher education and the current trends affecting the industry; organizational and change management; strategic planning; and administrative and financial strategies that drive continuous improvement — including cutting-edge technologies and digital strategies — to enhance performance and administrative efficiency. The Vice President will demonstrate a deep commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Rutgers community and a track record of ensuring that services and policies are equitable and supportive of all students. Formidable leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and manage a diverse team of professionals, fostering an environment of collaboration and excellence, and keen interpersonal skills for engaging with a variety of stakeholders will be essential for success. Financial expertise, analytical savvy, and a well-developed sense of innovation will be assets for the role. While it will be important for the Vice President to be a leader in the field who can view and analyze issues and operations from a system perspective, the successful candidate will be willing to roll up their sleeves; engage with students, families, and stakeholders at all levels; and always keep the student experience at the forefront of discussion.
