Wellstar Health System and WittKieffer have partnered in the search for a Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (VP/CMO) for Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers in Griffin and Jackson, GA, respectively. This is a tremendous opportunity for a dynamic physician executive to provide clinical leadership of two important community hospitals within one of Georgia’s largest integrated health systems, known nationally for its innovative care models focused on quality improvement and increased access to healthcare.
Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers joined Wellstar Health System in 2016 and serve as an anchor for the System in Spalding, Pike, Lamar, Butts and Henry Counties. The 160-bed Wellstar Spalding Medical Center and the 25-bed Wellstar Sylvan Grove Medical Center are each located approximately 1 hour from Atlanta. Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers have been providing care to the community for over 120 years and 50 years, respectively. Wellstar Spalding Medical Center is designated a as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the Georgia Department of Public Health.
The VP/CMO is responsible for spearheading clinical initiatives aimed at improving quality and safety outcomes across the continuum of care. In addition, the VP/CMO will play a key leadership role in enhancing patient services, physician alignment and satisfaction and leading evidence-based programs, practices and activities that deliver quality service and financial results.
The individual in this role is expected to be a performance-driven, collaborative physician leader. Key responsibilities of the role include physician relations, medical staff communications, and ensuring clinical input into strategic planning. The VP/CMO will maintain a proactive communications strategy with the medical staff and serve as the primary liaison between Administration and the medical staff. Key to the VP/CMO’s effectiveness will be the ability to lead through influence and to interface with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
It is expected that the VP/CMO will have leadership oversight of performance for medical management and patient care metrics, safety initiatives, quality and service excellence, physician leadership development, physician relations, implementation of clinical information systems, medical staff affairs support, physician performance improvement and physician recruitment.
