Contra Costa Health, an integrated health care system, seeks an accomplished financial executive to serve as its next Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As a complex, public sector integrated healthcare system employing over 4,700 individuals serving the county’s 1.1 million residents, the CFO will be responsible for developing and overseeing an annual budget of over $2.7 billion. The health system provides safety net care through eight divisions, including the County Hospital and Ambulatory Clinics; Contra Costa Health Plan with 265,000 lives; Behavioral Health; Environmental Health; Hazardous Materials Programs; Emergency Medical Services; Public Health; and Health, Housing and Homeless Services.
Reporting to the CEO/County Health Director, the CFO will serve as the key financial strategist/adviser to the CEO and Board of Supervisors. Tasked with optimizing Contra Costa Health’s (CCH) financial systems, the CFO will provide strategic leadership to align financial operations with CCH’s mission, enhance competitiveness, and oversee day-to-day financial functions. They will develop short and long-range financial plans, collaborate with the executive team, and influence cost savings and revenue enhancements to ensure robust financial performance and organizational wellbeing. The CFO is expected to be transparent and have strong communication regarding the planning and budgeting processes with the Board of Supervisors, County leadership as well the long-range financial forecasting for Health Services.
The next CFO will be an experienced executive adept at communicating a financial vision to diverse stakeholders and comfortable operating in a public sector environment with primarily a governmental payer mix. The CFO will champion and elevate financial expertise and talent across the organization ensuring the finance structure and leadership talent is in place to meet CCH’s current needs and plan for the future with a contemporary finance structure.

The FY24-25 total compensation range, including salary and benefits, is approximately $500,000, for a permanent, full-time appointment, but there is flexibility in the salary range based on credentials and years of experience. In addition, the Board of Supervisors has approved a 5% cost of living wage increase effective 5% July 1, 2025. The County is also open to negotiating a professional services contract engagement for this position for candidates who may be interested in such an arrangement.
