Reporting to the Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer, the Senior Director will have delegated lead responsibility for ensuring that the institution fosters a research environment that promotes a culture of compliance, the responsible conduct of research and research integrity, and actively discourages research misconduct. The Senior Director oversees critical research integrity and regulatory functions of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). Further, this position serves as the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Research Integrity Officer, Institutional Official, and Responsible Official.
Within this capacity, the Senior Director will coordinate research integrity activities with the relevant institutional director, such as the Scientific Director, Clinical Director, Cancer Center Director, and the CEO/President. The Senior Director will have extensive regulatory knowledge, demonstrated sound research, regulatory policy judgment, and proven skills working with external regulatory agencies, accrediting organizations, leaders of regulatory functions, faculty, and staff.
This is an onsite role based in Memphis, TN.
The successful Senior Director will:
- Oversee and be directly responsible for various St. Jude research compliance and regulatory programs, including the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP), the Institutional Animal Care and Use programs (IACUC office), the Institutional Biosafety Committee office (IBC), and other associated programs.
- Identify and respond to research compliance risks by performing research compliance-related risk assessments and overseeing the development of an annual Research Compliance Work Plan. Ongoing intimacy with state and federal laws and regulations, and national trends in all matters related to research integrity/compliance are central to the role.
- Play a key leadership role in the development and oversight of programming necessary to ensure a culture of research compliance. In partnership with the GSP and Grants Accounting will lead training and policy initiatives in research compliance integrity in coordination with Faculty leaders and other departments.
- Serve as the Institutional Official, responsible for ensuring institutional compliance with its Federal wide Assurance and Animal Welfare Assurance. The IO exercises administrative and operational authority to commit institutional resources, enforce policies, authorize necessary administrative action, and otherwise ensure that the institution meets its various federal health, safety, and responsible conduct of research regulations.
The preferred candidate will possess ten or more years of relevant experience working in research program management, specifically research compliance with regulations related to human health, animal, biotech oversight, international research or data security, including two years of administration. A relevant terminal degree is required.
