The University of Kentucky’s Markey Cancer Center and the Department of Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics are seeking exceptional candidates at the Full, Associate, or Assistant Professor level for full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in the area of tumor immunology. The Markey Cancer Center has seen transformational growth in recent years, culminating in the National Cancer Institute designating Markey as a Comprehensive Cancer Center in 2023. Situated on a campus with all six health profession colleges, the Markey Cancer Center is located within a vibrant and expanding basic, clinical, and population research community with ample opportunities for collaboration within and across its research programs.
Candidates will have the opportunity, and be supported, to build and maintain a high quality, extramurally funded research program; contribute to the teaching mission; mentor doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows; and provide service to the University and extremely collaborative academic community. Competitive start-up funds and faculty salary will be provided, along with wet laboratory space in UK’s new, open-format, Healthy Kentucky Research Building, which already houses the majority of cancer basic researchers and is in close proximity to state-of-the-art research cores.
The department is led by Ilhem Messaoudi, PhD, who took over as chair in November 2021. Under her leadership the department has initiated an aggressive recruitment campaign aimed at building on existing strengths while expanding the overall research portfolio with a focus on virology, immunology, tumor immunology, and research in the area of the microbiome.
Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD. Successful candidates will have track records of creativity and productivity, a desire to integrate into our growing community of collaborative researchers, and a dedication to our values of diversity, equity and inclusion. Start dates are negotiable, with an opportunity to join as early as January 1, 2026.
Confidential inquiries, nominations and applications can be directed to the University of Kentucky’s executive search partners Jeff Schroetlin and Lyndsey Nicodem at WittKieffer via email at [email protected]. Applications should include a curriculum vitae and a cover letter with a description of cancer research interests, teaching philosophy, and a discussion of future research plans.
