EL Paso, TX – Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) seeks a visionary and collaborative academic radiologist to serve as its next Chair for the Department of Radiology of its Foster School of Medicine. Leading an outstanding, collegial, and mission-driven faculty and staff, the incoming Chair will have the opportunity to substantially build the department across its clinical, research, and educational missions. The department is home to 9 full-time and affiliated faculty and 12 residents who provide comprehensive radiology services for University Medical Center of El Paso.
TTUHSC El Paso consists of the Foster School of Medicine, the Hunt School of Nursing, the Francis Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and a new Hunt School of Dental Medicine. As one of the five independent universities in the Texas Tech University System, TTUHSC El Paso aims to improve the lives of people in the El Paso community and the State of Texas by focusing on the unique health care needs of socially and culturally diverse border populations through excellence in integrated education, research, and patient care. The University is at the forefront of investigating and treating diseases affecting Hispanic and border populations and providing quality care in a medically underserved region.
The new Chair will collaborate with university and partner hospital leaders to formulate a strategy aimed at fostering the recruitment of high-caliber faculty and trainees. This plan will also focus on enhancing scholarly activities, achieving excellence in medical education, and expanding clinical subspecialty services. Situated at the foothills of the Franklin Mountains, the multicultural West Texas city of El Paso is home to the only academic health center on the U.S./Mexico border. With an average of 320 days of sunshine, the “Sun City” offers numerous outdoors pursuits. El Paso is the 6th largest city in Texas, the 22nd largest city in the U.S., and is recognized as one of the safest U.S. cities.
The ideal candidate is an actively practicing radiologist with academic leadership experience and a distinguished record of clinical service, teaching, and scholarship. Requirements include current board certification by the American Board of Radiology, eligibility for a Texas medical license, and qualifications for a faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor or higher. Candidates should also be passionate about serving the community and training the next generation of radiologists.
