Maryville University, a nationally recognized private institution located twenty-two miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri, seeks an experienced, inclusive, and action-oriented leader who embraces Maryville’s Active Learning Ecosystem to serve as the next Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). Since its inception in 1872, Maryville has evolved into a dynamic and forward-thinking university committed to empowering students and transforming lives through access to educational excellence. The CAS stands as a cornerstone of Maryville’s commitment to the integration of liberal arts, professional education, and academic excellence.
The CAS is a hub of creativity, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The College offers a diverse array of undergraduate and graduate programs, housed in four main areas of study: Design & Visual Art, Humanities, Social Science, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics. CAS majors are as diverse as biochemistry and interactive design, international studies, and forensic psychology. All programs are designed to prepare students for success in an ever-changing world. With a faculty dedicated to excellence in teaching and creative scholarship, the CAS provides students with opportunities for hands-on learning and real-world experiences as part of the curriculum.
The next Dean of the CAS will have the unique opportunity to build upon this strong foundation and lead the College into a new era of innovation and growth. By championing the principles of Access and Opportunity and Maryville’s Active Learning Ecosystem, the Dean will ensure the CAS remains at the forefront of educational excellence, providing students from all backgrounds with access to transformative learning experiences.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative leader with a proven track record of developing new programs, nurturing talented faculty, and maintaining dedication to inclusive excellence. This individual will possess a genuine passion for guiding Maryville students toward a future filled with engagement and achievement, within their academic journey and beyond graduation. As a member of an outstanding leadership team that includes the VPAA and dean colleagues, the new CAS Dean will provide vision and energy to advance Maryville’s mission of providing educational excellence to a diverse student body and promote the CAS as a model for university-wide progress and success, maintaining its history of excellence and supporting innovative approaches to liberal arts at Maryville.
