Chaminade University of Honolulu invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, School of Nursing and Health Professions.
The School of Nursing and Health Professions (School) has approximately 570 students enrolled in the following programs: Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Bachelor of Science in Community and Public Health. The School’s programs have a special emphasis on health inequity, community impact, and service to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Communities.
Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will build on the current success of the School and play a pivotal role in leading the School’s continued growth in developing new programs to educate students for challenging and meaningful health care careers. The incoming Dean will have the opportunity to lead the School to make contributions that increase Chaminade’s commitment to meet the health professions workforce and address the state’s health care needs, especially health care disparities within the community and their negative impact on various populations.
Located in the urban hub of Honolulu on the island of O’ahu, Chaminade is regarded for its remarkably diverse student body – students come from Hawai’i, the mainland U.S., the Pacific region, and beyond. As the only Catholic University in Hawai’i, and one of three Marianist higher-education institutions in the U.S., Chaminade is guided by its Marianist foundation with a strong emphasis on social justice. Chaminade is also a minority serving institution with a federal designation as Native-Hawaiian serving. Chaminade offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate programs in the fine arts and humanities, sciences and mathematics, behavioral sciences, business and communication, education, and nursing.
The successful candidate will be student focused, with excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative, and organizational skills as well as the ability to provide visionary leadership to steer the strategic direction of the School of Nursing and Health Professions. Minimum requirements include eligibility for Hawaii licensure, an earned doctorate from an accredited institution with at least one graduate degree in nursing (Ph.D. preferred); prior academic administrative experience; and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of Professor in nursing.
