Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Chair, Department of Pediatrics. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a Pediatric physician leader to expand integrated clinical programs, advance the academic mission and elevate research at one of the nation’s leading comprehensive medical schools.
Rutgers-RWJMS, a unit of Rutgers Health, is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in education, research, health care delivery, and the promotion of community health. In partnership with the Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital (RWJUH), the School’s principal academic affiliate, the PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital, and the Child Health Institute of New Jersey, RWJMS has a unique Children’s Academic Health Campus in New Brunswick. This campus, which is a collaborative effort among the Department of Pediatrics and these academic partners, provides a comprehensive approach to pediatric clinical services, education and research in children’s health.
The Pediatric Chair will take advantage of the current extensive networks of academic center affiliates and clinical sites across New Jersey in collaboration with Rutgers’ clinical partner, the Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health system (RWJBH), with its statewide network. Rutgers Health and Barnabas Health professionals are the largest health system in New Jersey. This health care system has over 25,000 births per year, providing a large clinical volume for the growth of pediatric care, research, and medical education.
The Chair will not only lead the Department of Pediatrics but will also be accountable as the Chair of Pediatrics in RWJUH, the Bristol-Meyers Squibb Children’s Hospital Pediatrician-in-Chief, the RWJBH lead for pediatric academic development across the health system, and the champion of the health and wellbeing of all children. As the leader in the delivery of pediatric clinical care, the Chair must possess a vision to guide the Department to the next level through growth and advancement of clinical programs, education, and scholarly activity. The desirable candidate should be of national/international stature with outstanding leadership qualities and experience, and a strong record of academic and collaborative accomplishments. They must have demonstrated success in promoting excellence in teaching, scholarship and research, as well as developing state-of-the-art clinical programs to create a healthy future for all children.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader and respected researcher and clinician with demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, lead and mentor. In addition, the Chair will be an individual who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, a leader who engages clinicians and holds them accountable, and possesses a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
