Catholic Medical Center (CMC) seeks a transformative, dynamic and collaborative physician leader to serve as its next Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CMC, Alex Walker, Jr., this leader will be an integral member of the executive leadership team. The CMO will serve as a change agent in transforming care delivery for one of the most high-performing healthcare organizations in New Hampshire. Based in Manchester, New Hampshire, is a 330-licensed bed, not for profit full service acute care hospital. With $1.6 billion in gross annual revenue, CMC offers medical-surgical care with more than 26 subspecialties, inpatient and outpatient services, diagnostic imaging and a 30-bed 24-hour emergency department. Norris Cotton Cancer Center at CMC offers medical oncology and infusion services. CMC offers level III trauma and serves more than 12,000 inpatient additions and 188,000 outpatient registrations each year. The hospital does have a small OBGYN residency program. With over 400 providers and more than 3,000 employees, CMC is one of only three ranked regional medical centers in New Hampshire by US News and World Report and is currently ranked second in the state behind Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
The CMO will provide the clinical expertise and leadership to ensure continued high quality, patient centered care. They will facilitate, provide leadership, and support the implementation of the recommendations for quality, safety and performance improvement from the 2023 Horty Springer Report to improve the functionality and effectiveness of the hospital medical staff organization. This will be accomplished by leading clinical and quality initiatives that support consistent clinical performance and practice standards across the hospital. The CMO will champion the alignment of credentialed providers and the hospital, fostering a culture of peer review, collaboration and engagement. The CMO provides executive-level leadership to the quality management/performance improvement department, medical staff support services department, infection control department, and case management department ensuring the collaboration and coordination of all stakeholders in these areas. The CMO also provides executive-level leadership to the Hospitalist Group ensuring clinical and operational integration into the programs and services supported by the hospitalist team. This executive will function as a liaison and work collaboratively with the President of the Medical Staff, Medical Staff Leaders and Hospital Administration/Department Leaders in all matters relating to the medical staff.
The successful CMO will be a physician with at least ten years in a physician executive leadership role; an advanced degree in health care or business-related field is preferred. The CMO who will best succeed is one who is visible, proactive, transparent, decisive, an outstanding communicator and one who is able to build relationships and establish trust and credibility across a diverse group of stakeholders and functional leaders in a complex, high performance health system. The next CMO must be able to effectively communicate a vision and build followership based on CMC’s commitment to high quality, safe, efficient, innovative care.
