Derby, CT – Griffin Hospital is seeking a dynamic clinician-educator to serve as its next Chair of Medicine. The Chair will be assigned both administrative and clinical responsibilities at Griffin Hospital, which will include assisting the CMO in the oversight and management of all clinical functions and promoting the integration of clinical programs and specialty services offered within the Department as well as provide clinical care in Physician’s specialty. This is an outstanding leadership opportunity for a physician who likes to lead from the front, working with providers, nursing and administration to grow and develop new programs and clinical capabilities. The Chair of Medicine will be vital in continuing to establish Griffin Hospital as a destination teaching hospital in the region.
Located in Derby, Connecticut, Griffin Hospital is a 160-bed acute care community teaching hospital serving more than 130,000 residents of the Lower Naugatuck Valley Region. Griffin Hospital also serves as the flagship hospital for Planetree, an international leader in patient-centered care, receiving national recognition for its approach to creating healthcare facilities and for its responsiveness to the needs of patients.
Griffin Hospital is affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine, The Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University, and accredited by The Joint Commission, featuring more than 300 active and courtesy physicians who have admitting privileges.
An integral clinical leader for the hospital, the Chair will serve as a role model for the department by demonstrating institutional citizenship through participation in governance and in committee activities of the department, the hospital and the profession at large. The Chair will provide visionary leadership of the department and to oversee the departmental aspect of strategic planning to improve the quality of the clinical, educational, and research programs. Such planning should be in accord with the overall vision for the Hospital.
The successful candidate will be a contemporary medical leader, educator, and clinician who will advance the department in its quest to deliver the highest quality care, grow its patient base, provide new clinical services to the community, enhance its clinical research efforts and ensure fellows, residents and students receive a superior educational experience. Griffin Hospital seeks candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience gained within a department of Medicine and strong interpersonal and communication skills that complement a passion for excellence. They must also possess a successful track record of collaborating with a pluralistic medical staff that includes faculty, employed and independent physicians.
