WellStar Health System (WHS) seeks a dynamic and driven HR professional to serve as its next Assistant Vice President, Human Resources (AVPHR) over their soon-to-open Columbia County Hospital (CCH). The AVP will be the strategic HR partner responsible for advancing the workforce and culture within this dynamic academic medical center environment. This high-profile role reports directly to the Market Vice President of Human Resources and demands an experienced, agile healthcare HR leader with a proven track record in championing excellence in patient care, education, and research.
WHS has grown tremendously over the last several years and is one of the largest and most integrated not-for-profit health systems in Georgia, with 11 hospitals, nine emergency departments, nine cancer centers, and more than 300 medical office locations. Wellstar is frequently recognized for its commitment to providing world-class healthcare and excellent patient service.
Opening in 2026, Columbia County Hospital will be licensed for 100-beds and will be a state-designated Level II trauma center. Part of this expansion will include an adjacent medical office building that will feature 11 outpatient clinics. Currently Columbia County is the largest county in the state without its own hospital.
The Assistant Vice President of HR, (AVPHR) is expected to be a credible leader and an engaged partner with leadership teams of Wellstar Health System. Leading HR means developing and maintaining a high-quality, comprehensive human resources program that supports the institution’s mission, values and strategic plan. This is a high visibility, hands-on leadership role with opportunity for significant organizational impact and a chance to help build the team at CCH from the ground up.
The AVPHR reports to the Market VP of HR and will be dedicated to the day-to-day partnership with the leadership team of CCH.
AVPHR has oversight and implementation of successful programs for employee relations, employee/management counseling and coaching, employment and on-boarding, EEOC charges, unemployment hearings, legal issues, employee complaint investigations, employee activities, the exit interview process analysis, human resources relative metric analysis such as turnover analysis, etc. Expertise in all HR functional areas such as change management, performance management, talent management, engagement strategies, and process improvement strategies is required. Responsible for strategic and tactical balance, and achievement in driving HR service delivery and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate has a high degree of integrity and the ability to exercise discretion, with a minimum of nine years of progressive human resources leadership in a similarly complex healthcare environment. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Candidate must have SHRM – SCP or SPHR.
