The University of Kentucky (UK) seeks a visionary and collaborative leader to serve as the next T.W. Lewis Dean of the Lewis Honors College (LHC). This exceptional opportunity comes at a pivotal moment for UK as it continues its ascent as one of the nation’s premier public research universities.
The dean will lead a dynamic academic community dedicated to shaping future leaders, thinkers, and innovators. Established in 2015 through a historic $23.5 million gift- the largest in UK’s history at the time- the Lewis Honors College builds on more than six decades of honors education. Today, LHC serves 2,400+ high-achieving students from every discipline, representing 8.7% of UK’s undergraduate population. Its mission is to help students explore their purpose, develop intellectually, and lead with integrity.
The next dean will report to the Provost and serve as the academic and administrative head of the college, responsible for all aspects of its mission and operations. This includes leading curriculum innovation, promoting student engagement and success, developing cocurricular programs, and ensuring strong integration with UK’s 16 academic colleges. The dean will manage a $4.5 million annual budget, oversee faculty and staff performance, and collaborate with the Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement to enhance private funding and alumni relations.
The dean will also represent LHC nationally through organizations such as the National Collegiate Honors Council and Honors Education at Research Universities. This role requires a leader who can articulate and implement a shared vision, foster collaboration across campus, and champion the value of honors education.
Ideal candidates will hold a terminal degree and a distinguished record of teaching, research, and service sufficient for tenure at UK. They will bring at least five years of significant academic leadership experience, visionary and innovative leadership skills, and demonstrated success in administration, budgeting, and governance. Strong communication skills, a collaborative approach, and an aptitude for fundraising are essential.
