Avera Health Plans has retained WittKieffer to assist in their search for a Vice President of Sales (VP). Avera Health Plans is a provider sponsored plan that is wholly owned by Avera Health, which is a successful, integrated health system based in Sioux Falls, SD. Providing services at 300 locations, Avera Health has the strongest brand in the region, a diverse provider network, and is located in a geography poised to grow.

With over $300M in premium revenue, Avera Health Plans provides coverage for a variety of customers including individuals, families, and employers. As part of the dedication to providing care and services to those in need, Avera Health Plans has participated in healthcare.gov since it began in 2014, after the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The plan is now growing into continuous states to South Dakota with new product offerings, and an ambitious goal of growing membership from 82,000 to 150,000 by 2029.
The VP is the senior leader responsible for managing all sales functions of Avera Health Plans. The position requires leadership, relationship-building, project management, analytic and sales skills that create a culture of success and on-going business and sales goal achievement. the sales functions at health plan: The VP of Sales is responsible for the following lines of business: Large Group, Self-Employed Individual, Sales Operations, Agent Relations, and Consumer Sales—Marketplace and Medicare Supplemental.
Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, this role is integral to Avera Health Plans profitability, membership growth, and overall financial strength. This executive will drive membership growth that aligns with the health system’s and the health plan’s goals and values. The VP will inherit a dedicated sales team that is poised to deliver exceptional products at an affordable price, as well as a reputation for delivering exceptional customer service.
The ideal candidate will have seven to ten years of senior-level sales experience in a multi-product, integrated provider-owned health plan, or a commercial health plan known for its quality and attention to service with providers. A proven track record in achieving sales targets, developing new business opportunities, and executing successful sales strategies, as well as at least four-six years of management experience. We seek candidates who have a passion for and a deep understanding of the health plan market dynamics, including experience with selling to payers, providers, or selling health insurance solutions.
