Tanner Health System, an independent, not-for-profit health system headquartered in Carrollton, GA, is seeking a strategic, transparent, and humble leader to serve as its next Senior Vice President, Chief Nurse Executive (CNE). Serving communities across west Georgia and east Alabama, Tanner includes five hospitals, nearly 5,000 employees, a large multi-specialty medical group, and a robust behavioral health division. The system is entering a new era of smart growth, clinical innovation, and investment in technology and infrastructure.
The CNE will be a key member of Tanner’s engaged and forward-thinking executive leadership team, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. This leader will shape the future of nursing across the system, driving quality, safety, and workforce development while aligning nursing strategy with Tanner’s mission and values. The role includes oversight of nursing practice standards, staffing models, professional development, and succession planning across all entities.
Tanner is actively investing in its future, including the implementation of Epic and the Robbie AI platform for clinical decision support. Major capital projects are underway, including a new 97,000-square-foot patient tower at Tanner Medical Center – Carrollton and an upcoming tower at Tanner Medical Center – Villa Rica. These expansions reflect Tanner’s commitment to modernizing care and meeting the evolving needs of its communities. The system was recently named one of Forbes’ 2025 Best Employers for Healthcare Professionals, and its flagship hospital earned the Pathway to Excellence® designation.
The CNE will lead efforts to refine and strengthen shared governance, centralized staffing, and standardized nursing practices. While foundational changes have been made, opportunities remain to improve resource utilization, clarify accountability, and ensure patient-centered decision-making. Effective change management and a culture of transparency will be essential to building trust and engaging frontline staff.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned clinical executive with a track record of improving nursing practice and driving measurable outcomes in quality, safety, patient experience, and cost of care. They will be adept at leading through influence, fostering collaboration across departments, and inspiring teams. Experience with shared governance, workforce engagement, and system-level nursing leadership is essential. This is a rare opportunity to lead nursing across a respected regional health system, establish standards of excellence, and contribute meaningfully to Tanner’s strategic direction and community impact.
