Wellstar Health System is seeking a passionate, creative and inspiring nurse leader to serve as their next Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers located in Griffin Georgia. One hour south of Atlanta.
Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers joined Wellstar Health System in 2016 and serve as an anchor for the system in Spalding, Pike, Lamar, Butts, and Henry Counties. The 160-bed Wellstar Spalding Medical Center and the 25-bed, Critical Access, Wellstar Sylvan Grove Medical Center are each located approximately 1-hour south of Atlanta with a combined net revenue of $187M and over 740 employees. Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers have been providing care to the community for over 120 years and 50 years, respectively. Wellstar Spalding Regional Medical Center is designated as a Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission and the Georgia Department of Public Health. Wellstar Health System has been on the Baldrige journey since 2018, with nine facilities currently recognized at the state level, one at the national level, and another expected by the end of 2026. The organization also crosswalks with the Magnet journey, with one currently recognized Magnet facility and its flagship facility, Kennestone Regional Medical Center, anticipated to receive Magnet status in the near future.
Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Hospital President, the CNO will be walking into a unique opportunity to shape the future of nursing within a competitive and evolving market for the health system. It will be a priority for the next CNO to be an executive on the C-suite team while balancing nursing leadership with business acumen. Similar to most hospitals and health systems across the nation, nurse recruitment and retention will be a key focus for the CNO. This leader will be expected to partner closely with Human Resources to build and retain a strong workforce through innovative recruiting efforts. The CNO will be a change agent throughout Wellstar Spalding and Sylvan Grove Medical Centers, actively seeking out opportunities to creatively improve patient care delivery, health outcomes, and patient experience in a rapidly changing healthcare environment.
The successful CNO will be a nursing leader who has demonstrated experience in advancing quality, safety and the patient/team experience, preferably in a rural to suburban community-based setting. A strong acute care clinical background combined with extensive and progressive administrative skills is expected, along with experience successfully balancing financial and clinical objectives. The candidate will have a proven record of nursing leadership with a minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in progressively responsible positions in hospitals or health systems that are similar in complexity to Wellstar. Experience in a Magnet or Pathways designated environment is a plus.
The CNO who will best succeed is one who is visible, community-oriented, proactive, decisive, an outstanding communicator and one who is able to build relationships across the organization to engage peers in delivering excellence in clinical care. The ability to foster team cohesion, help staff ‘find their whys again,’ and improve communication methodologies, empathy, and patient/family interaction will be critical.
