The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) seeks its next Assistant Vice Chancellor of Admissions and Precollege who will be a dynamic executive leader capable of driving the vision and transformation of the admissions and precollege departments across the campus while influencing regional, national, and international conversations.
The flagship university within the University of Colorado system and a member of the AAU, CU Boulder serves more than 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students and is distinguished by a strong commitment to the public good and an innovative mindset that shapes its teaching, research and creative work, and service. CU Boulder is more than one place. It’s a network of vibrant communities of thinkers, learners, and game-changers who thrive on the brink of discovery.
Interest in the university has surged. Since 2018, CU Boulder has nearly doubled the number of first-year applications. For the undergraduate class entering in fall 2025, CU Boulder received over 70,000 applications. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the next era of enrollment management – a chance to “Be Boulder.” Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management, the Assistant Vice Chancellor (AVC) of Admissions and Precollege is a key member of the Enrollment Management leadership team and ensures that recruitment and outreach strategies are designed to meet and support the enrollment efforts of the university. The AVC will oversee a staff of 95 full-time employees in a portfolio that includes the Office of Admissions (domestic and international recruitment and operations, and graduate recruitment and application processing) and the Office of Precollege Outreach and Engagement.
CU Boulder recognizes the exceptional opportunities associated with its role as a national public research university and is keenly aware of its responsibility for educating the next generation of citizens and leaders. As the university strives to elevate its impact, it seeks an innovative, talented, and collaborative leader to create community partnerships, design programs, and implement strategies aimed at enhancing academic preparation, broadening educational opportunities, and promoting access to higher education for first-generation and low-income students.
The next AVC will possess knowledge of policies and procedures related to recruitment and undergraduate and graduate admissions as well as knowledge of NCAA recruiting requirements. A commitment to providing an extraordinary student experience; gaining the trust and confidence of others through honesty, authenticity, and acceptance of responsibility; and the ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively to meet shared objectives will be assets for the role.
In addition, the AVC will lead and support precollege outreach and engagement efforts, with a mission to increase access to higher education for first-generation students across the state. This includes developing strategic initiatives that help students see themselves at a college or university, fostering inclusive programming, and building relationships with schools, families, and community organizations to create pathways to postsecondary success.
Demonstrated experience with technology and database systems, knowledge of the structure of a large research university, and the ability to create new and better ways for the organization to be successful will be essential for success. A master’s degree is required.
Located on the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains on one of the most beautiful campuses in the U.S., CU Boulder offers more than 4,600 academic courses across over 160 fields of study. The university transforms the future through the dedication of more than 8,000 faculty and staff who empower students to lead, innovate, and make a meaningful impact.
