Watts Healthcare Corporation (WHCC) is a highly-recognized federally qualified healthcare center (FQHC) based in Los Angeles, California, and structured as a private, non-profit network of community-based health centers. WHCC strives to improve the health and well-being of people and communities. WHCC began in response to the 1965 Watts riots by offering needed community-based healthcare and social services. It grew to be an integral organization serving this community. Currently located within four care sites, WHCC provides a wide range of primary and specialty healthcare services, including medical, dental, and behavioral health services, as well as support services like Women Infants and Children (WIC). WHCC is dedicated to delivering culturally sensitive, compassionate, and quality care, particularly to underserved populations in Los Angeles.
WHCC seeks a visionary, strategic, and relational leader to serve as its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead and grow the organization into the future. This position offers a unique opportunity to oversee a team of 242 mission-focused individuals and guide their direction. Working in close collaboration with the Board of Directors, the CEO will be the voice and face of WHCC, defining a vision that encompasses expansion, development, integration and enhancement of services. The CEO will be the spokesperson for WHCC, working externally to promote and advocate for the organization and facilitate beneficial relationships with community leaders, government officials, union representatives, hospital partners, donors, patients, and other key stakeholders.
The next CEO will bring leadership experience in community health with a strong understanding of FQHCs and the unique and important role they play within the larger healthcare landscape. Candidates must align with the strong community-based mission of WHCC. This will require a genuine desire to listen, learn and embrace the rich history of the community, and the ability to provide the necessary leadership to effectively lean into and address the many challenges that exist.
The successful candidate will bring experience working synergistically with a Board of Directors in the leadership of a healthcare or social service organization. The CEO will be strategic in their thought processes and leadership, able to see the broader picture yet also have experience in driving operational change. They will bring experiences that have fully prepared them to be the ultimate guardian of a multi-facility FQHC and a team of cross-discipline individuals, including physicians and other providers.
If not already based in the Los Angeles area, the successful CEO candidate will be required to live within the community. With corporate offices based in the Watts neighborhood, working at WHCC offers the opportunity to either live in Watts or reside in an adjoining neighborhood.
