Montage Health, based in Monterey, California, is seeking an experienced, collaborative finance leader to serve as the health system’s Chief Financial Officer. Under the leadership of the new CEO, Dr. Michael McDermott, the CFO will ensure short- and long-term financial and operational goals are met to advance the system’s overall strategy. Montage Health is a $1.2 billion not-for-profit health system anchored by a highly regarded 258-bed Level II trauma center. It is a progressive, multifaceted delivery system that includes a joint-ventured health plan covering over 11,000 lives commercially, a medical group with approximately 100 physicians that sees almost 200,000 patient visits annually, urgent care centers, the Ohana Center for Child and Adolescent Behavioral Health, and a fundraising foundation. The CFO will quickly familiarize themselves with all the system’s entities, help shape system strategies, and provide leadership to continue Montage’s well-established presence in a steadily growing part of California.
Reporting directly to the President and CEO of Montage Health, the CFO is directly responsible for all financial operations of Montage Health, including, but not limited to, finance, treasury, accounting, revenue cycle, and value-based care and population health. The CFO advises and supports the executive leadership team, the Board of Directors, and local leadership teams. They will ensure the presence of financial rigor and stewardship while helping lead operational excellence and performance improvement initiatives across the continuum of care and the varying care settings. This executive will be key in driving the organization forward through benchmarking and standardization efforts. They will ensure the seamless coordination of business plans, pro forma development, and all growth-related activities. The CFO will remain steadfast in building upon the system’s income and balance statement and actively manage Montage Health’s investment portfolio to improve the long-term positioning of the system.
The next CFO will have a proven track record of leading high-performing, growth-oriented organizations. Experience leading financial operations in an independent system is valuable. This executive will be decisive and collaborative, and comfortable presenting to the Board as they are working with local operators and frontline staff. They must be open to contributing broadly across Montage Health at all levels. The CFO will bring experience across both strategic and operational finance, leading by example and holding themself and their team to a high standard of integrity and accountability. The base salary will be in the $580,000 – $680,000 range based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, Montage Health offers a competitive executive compensation program, including incentive compensation and basic and supplemental benefits.
