Johns Hopkins University seeks a dynamic, strategic leader to serve as its next Vice President of Facilities (VPF). Located in Baltimore, MD, Johns Hopkins is America’s first research university and nearly 140 years since its founding, the university remains a world leader in both teaching and research with more than 21,000 undergraduate and graduate students studying with esteemed faculty members across nine world-class academic divisions. Under general supervision of the Senior Vice President of Capital Strategy, Real Estate, and Development, the VPF will be responsible for building and maintaining a high quality, client focused, and service-oriented team with an engaged staff performing at their highest level in a workplace environment where they feel empowered, respected, trusted, and valued. The VPF will provide direct executive leadership for Plant Operations, Facilities Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, Custodial Services, Utilities, Transportation and Parking, and Sustainability. They will be responsible for directing the vision for their teams to enhance their operational effectiveness in support of the university’s strategic plan, including incorporation of technology and outsourcing where efficiency can be improved. They will provide indirect leadership support to the Capital Projects, Planning, and Governance departments in support of the construction and facilities services provided to the campus community.

Successful candidates will have at least 10 years of relevant experience, a bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred), and proven leadership in systemwide facilities management, including maintenance, operations, and utilities systems. They must also possess excellent project management, people management, communication, change management, process innovation, and budgetary skills. Additionally, this leader will be a strong collaborator who is well versed in the intricacies of higher education organizations.
