Binghamton University, one of four research universities in the State University of New York System, seeks an experienced, forward thinking and highly motivated professional to serve as the next Director of Financial Aid (Director).
Reporting to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management, the Director will be a strategic and collaborative leader responsible for shaping and executing a comprehensive financial aid strategy that supports institutional goals for enrollment, retention, and student success. As a key member of the enrollment management team, the Director will partner closely with admissions, the registrar, the bursar, advancement and student services to ensure access and affordability for a diverse student population. With a strong focus on data-driven decision-making, the Director will leverage analytics and predictive modeling to optimize aid distribution, balance merit- and need-based funding, and enhance the institution’s competitive positioning. In addition, the Director leads and supervises the financial aid team fostering a collaborative, student-centered, and results-oriented environment while overseeing the full spectrum of financial aid operations, including federal, state, and institutional programs. The Director will ensure regulatory compliance, managing audits and reporting, and maintaining high standards of customer service.
A vibrant, R1 public research university, which is consistently ranked in the top 75 universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Binghamton University continues to improve the quality of both undergraduate and graduate education by seeking to vigorously support the scholarly, creative, and research endeavors of its faculty. Forbes recently named Binghamton to its list of 10 “New Public Ivies.” In Fall 2024, Binghamton enrolled over 14,000 undergraduate students and over 4,000 graduate students, with a total of 54,000 applications. Binghamton continues to have a diverse class, with the geographic distribution reflecting New York state’s population. About 30% of new students are from Upstate New York, 6% from Broome and Tioga counties, 24% from Long Island, and 28% from New York City. Binghamton also welcomed 585 new international students to the campus community this past fall.
The successful candidate will bring a forward-thinking approach to financial aid policy, emphasizing equity, transparency, and long-term student support. A minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in financial aid administration, a demonstrated commitment to equity and student success, and a bachelor’s degree is required. The ideal candidate will have deep regulatory expertise including extensive knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, including Title IV programs, strong leadership capabilities and proven change management success, with a passion for creating inclusive financial aid solutions that empower students to thrive.
