WittKieffer is proud to partner with Buffalo General Medical Center (BGMC) and Gates Vascular Institute (GVI), the largest Kaleida Health facility, in the search for the next SVP/President. This position represents an outstanding leadership opportunity for an operationally talented, innovative, system-experienced leader to join this clinically sophisticated, comprehensive organization.
BGMC, Kaleida’s 526-bed acute care facility in downtown Buffalo, NY, is a vital part of the organization and Western New York’s largest healthcare provider. As a major teaching affiliate of the University at Buffalo’s Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, the center delivers a full continuum of advanced inpatient and outpatient services, including specialized programs in cardiology, neurology, oncology, orthopedics, and bariatric surgery.
At the heart of innovation and excellence is the Gates Vascular Institute (GVI), a nationally acclaimed center that brings together elite physicians, surgeons, and researchers to lead the fight against cardiac, stroke, and vascular diseases. GVI is renowned for its integration of clinical care, research, and education, and is home to some of the most advanced endovascular and neurosurgical procedures in the country.
The President of BGMC/GVI is the key leader responsible for the performance and well-being of the hospital and its patients. The President will partner with Kaleida leaders to advance strategies to grow services and revenues, improve operations and efficiencies, reduce costs, and ensure alignment with Kaleida Health strategic goals, mission, and vision. The President is the spokesperson for BGMC/GVI and will focus on continuing to advance its position in the greater Buffalo communities and beyond. The President will also serve as an SVP of Kaleida Health and will have system accountability. The President will partner with Kaleida executives to further integrate and grow services and programs across the system. Additionally, the President will ensure a high reliability culture with outstanding quality patient care, and exceptional patient experience.
Reporting to the Kaleida Health COO, Kelly Corbi, the President will oversee all daily administrative and operational functions of the hospital. This role demands an operationally skilled and astute executive who can develop strong partnerships with key stakeholders and provide focused leadership. The goal is to achieve strong operational performance, clinical transformation and effective growth strategies, while developing collaborative, trusting relationships with physicians, collective bargaining partners and all employees.
The successful candidate will have broad operational leadership experience within an academic medical center or major teaching hospital, or similarly complex healthcare environment. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading operational and culture-building initiatives, leading approaches to improving patient throughput, access and quality of care, operational effectiveness, and efficiency. A track record of developing collaborative, positive relationships with physicians to advance program development, and with fostering the collective ownership of clinical performance and efficiency with providers is important. Candidates must be able to articulate a vision to meet future challenges and be committed to thoughtful, highly responsive approaches to the changing and challenging dynamics in healthcare, including increased fiscal pressures. Candidates must demonstrate and champion contemporary approaches to recruiting, retaining, and developing a workforce, including championing diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives. Candidates should be effective in building relationships with a variety of community constituents.
This is an outstanding leadership role to further advance the performance and mission for an urban, large scale tertiary organization that is a key part of a mission-oriented, market dominant regional health system. The expected base salary range is $549,000 to $649,000. The role is also eligible for an annual performance incentive.
