Beacon Health System (Beacon) and the University of Notre Dame’s (UND) Harper Cancer Research Institute (HCRI) seek a dynamic, passionate, and collaborative physician leader to serve as the inaugural Chief of Oncology and Associate Director for Clinical and Community Research (Chief) respectively. The Chief will serve as a key contributor to the systematic growth of the cancer program across the region through care delivery, research, and education.

UND’s HCRI is focused on innovative, interdisciplinary cancer research with translational impact. It brings together faculty and resources across disciplines to develop novel strategies for cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The UND is a leading research university known for its academic excellence, global partnerships, and commitment to advancing human understanding through science and scholarship.
The Chief will advance a model of care which is highly distributed, fully integrated and comprehensive –achieving Beacon’s vision in the sphere of cancer care, guided by the achievement of top decile outcomes, seamlessly coordinated care and a highly reliable patient experience. This physician leader will cultivate strong alignment and working relationships in a pluralistic model with key providers of cancer care across the region to ensure excellence for patients and their families. The Chief will guide the strategic advancement and alignment of cancer care across Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan and be instrumental in shaping the overall clinical strategy of cancer care delivery.
As Associate Director, this leader will be responsible for advancing the clinical research by bridging laboratory discoveries with patient-centered applications. The position is tasked with strengthening collaborations between basic scientists and clinical partners, expanding access to clinical research opportunities, fostering interdisciplinary team science, and driving strategic growth in studies aligned with HCRI’s vision to develop innovative and impactful cancer therapies.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader with a demonstrated ability to set a vision and effectively inspire, manage, mentor and develop a preeminent cancer institute. The Chief will be an individual who has a passion for growth, a bias for action, and a systems-orientation, who can lead to cutting-edge research and the delivery of high-quality care. The Chief will have experience in clinical oncology services leadership with outcomes/quality measurement and clinical research expertise. They will be an excellent communicator with a track record of building teams to achieve common objectives, partnership with physicians, other clinicians and administrative leaders. To be considered for the role, candidates must hold a medical doctorate degree, board certification in an oncology-based specialty, and have experience in translational research and patient accrual.
