The University of Arizona (UArizona) College of Medicine – Tucson invites applications for the position of Chief, Division of Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine and Director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center. This is an exceptional opportunity for a transformative leader to help grow the Division, promoting patient care through state-of-the-art diagnostics and innovative therapeutics; expanding the already strong cohort of faculty, fellows, students, and staff; and augmenting and expanding basic and translational research and clinical trial activities.
The Division of Rheumatology is a comprehensive academic clinical division with 10 core faculty members with established community partnerships in a wide variety of areas, and research excellence driven by the University of Arizona Arthritis Center. Building on an established partnership with Banner Health, the fourth largest non-profit healthcare system in the U.S., the Division is well-positioned to expand its faculty and range of clinical services to include general rheumatology, Lupus Clinics, Fragility Clinics, Rheumatology-Dermatology Clinics, Rheumatology-Interstitial Lung Disease Clinics, Rheumatology-Glomerular Diseases Clinics, and Inflammatory Arthritis-Cardiology Clinics.
In 1985, the Arizona Board of Regents established the University of Arizona Arthritis Center, one of the first four Centers of Excellence in the Health Sciences. The UA Arthritis Center remains the only center of its kind in the state of Arizona dedicated to multidisciplinary research and education related to musculoskeletal, rheumatic, and autoimmune diseases. The Arthritis Center is housed in three different locations including the Arizona Health Sciences Center, Steele Children’s Research Center, and the Arthritis Center Annex. The Arthritis Center has 4 endowed chairs, 3 endowed lectureships, and is actively engaged in fundraising. The Arthritis Center is well supported, and this position will include an endowed chairship.
Reporting to the Dean of the College of Medicine as Director of the University of Arizona Arthritis Center and to the Chair of the Department of Medicine as Chief, Division of Rheumatology, the selected candidate will work collaboratively with the leaders of the College and Banner – University Medicine to further the tripartite mission of achieving excellence in clinical care, education, and individual and team-based research. This individual will be a visionary, accomplished leader with demonstrated achievements in rheumatology research and clinical operations and will be comfortable setting ambitious goals and strategies. An MD, DO or equivalent is required, as is board certification and eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
