Yale School of Medicine (YSM), a premier world-class academic institution located in New Haven, CT, is seeking an accomplished executive to serve as its inaugural Senior Director of YSM Faculty Lifecycle Services. This role involves supporting the effective execution of the full spectrum of Faculty Lifecycle Services, with responsibility for staff leadership and program coordination. The Senior Director will oversee the academic review process for promotions, position approvals, search procedures, and various faculty-related authorizations. Additionally, they will manage faculty support services for the School of Medicine, the largest school at Yale University, which comprises over 3,000 ladder/tenure and research rank faculty, as well as a large group of adjunct, voluntary (clinical), and other teaching faculty.
The Senior Director supervises teams at the Associate Director or Director Level to coordinate all areas of the faculty lifecycle, through search, offer and hire, appointments, reappointments and promotions, and onboarding, leaves, and offboarding. In addition to working closely with the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Samuel A. Ball, PhD, and the Deputy Dean for Finance and Administration, YSM, Arnim E. Dontes, MBA, to whom the successful candidate will dually report, the Senior Director will interface with departmental leaders to provide supervision and support to departmental faculty affairs managers and coordinators. Lastly, the Senior Director collaborates with other leaders in the YSM Dean’s office on faculty career development, leadership development, and mentoring initiatives.
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience. An advanced degree in HR Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or Education Management is preferred, along with experience in progressively responsible roles within faculty affairs, academic administration, or related areas in an academic/medical setting.
The ideal candidate should understand faculty dynamics and high-performing operations, be proficient in performance improvement and enhancement, and have experience and familiarity with process improvement methodologies. Additionally, they should be data-driven, with experience in data analytics and implementing dashboards and reports for faculty and be committed to continuing this approach.
