APLA Health seeks a visible, strategic and mission-driven leader to serve as the organization’s next Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
APLA Health operates eight Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) locations in Los Angeles County, serving more than 19,000 people annually, regardless of ability to pay. Comprehensive services include LGBTQ+ primary care, dental care, mental health, HIV specialty care, and Out Here Sexual Health services (PrEP, STD Screening & Treatment, DoxyPEP, HIV testing, Vaccines, and PEP). For people with HIV, APLA Health’s wraparound support services include housing services through the Alliance for Housing & Healing and nutritional support via the Vance North Necessities of Life Program, the largest food pantry program in the United States for people with HIV, distributing over 800,000 meals annually. In sum, APLA Health offers quality healthcare, life-saving services, camaraderie, compassion, and comfort to support underserved communities.
Since its founding, APLA Health has remained steadfast in its commitment to ending the HIV epidemic and has achieved leader status on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Healthcare Equality Index (HEI), securing a score of 100 out of 100 the past four years to mark APLA Health’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and equality within healthcare. The next CHRO will be a leader who appreciates the 42 years that APLA Health has worked to bring attention to crises, eliminate stigmas, and make healthcare equity a priority in LA County.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the next CHRO will lead human resources strategy and operations for an organization with a deeply ingrained mission of providing comprehensive, affordable, patient-centered, quality health care. The successful candidate will be experienced in both human resources operations and strategy to implement and advance human resources best practices in employee engagement, talent acquisition, labor, diversity, equity and inclusion, performance management, learning and development, benefits, compensation and succession planning. APLA Health would welcome an innovative executive and next CHRO who leads with humility and with a heart of service to add to an organization that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five to seven years in all areas of human resources leadership for a major HR function in a complex organization. A bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, public administration, health administration, law, the social sciences or a closely related field and supervisory experience is required. SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP), SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), Senior Professional in HR (SPHR), Professional Human Resources Certification (PHR) or a Master’s degree in a related field is a plus.

The anticipated compensation range for this position is between $230,000 and $310,000 annually (NOTE – compensation range updated May 27, 2025).
