Stony Brook Medicine seeks an accomplished cardiothoracic surgeon to serve as its next Division Chief, Cardiothoracic Surgery. This is an excellent opportunity for a collaborative surgeon with an interest in a clinical and academic position to lead a division of faculty possessing broad expertise in cardiothoracic surgery. The division chief is also the co-director of the Stony Brook Heart Institute.
The Renaissance School of Medicine is a public medical school in Stony Brook, New York. The Department of Surgery is comprised of ten divisions consisting of over 60 specialized full-time faculty members, some of whom are national leaders in their fields. The Cardiothoracic Surgery Program within the Stony Brook Heart Institute has earned a prestigious three-star rating, the highest rating possible, from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for its patient care and outcomes in mitral valve repair/replacement procedures and isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG or heart bypass surgery) procedures. Stony Brook University Hospital is a top 50 hospital for Cardiac Care.
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Surgery, the Chief will lead the clinical, administrative, educational, and research goals of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery. They will develop and mentor the faculty and lead quality initiatives, ensuring a high standard of care. The next Chief will be committed to recruiting and training a diverse workforce and ensuring a culture that supports entrepreneurialism, innovation, and creative thinking in overseeing the clinical enterprise.
The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with experience working in an academic medical center or in a similarly complex environment and a proven track record as a clinician and/or researcher to contribute positively to the overall teaching and research goals in the Division, the Department of Surgery, and Stony Brook Renaissance School of Medicine. An MD or DO Degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in Cardiothoracic Surgery is required. Additionally, the incumbent must be a New York State medical licensed surgeon or be eligible for a New York State Medical License and must be eligible for a senior faculty position in accordance with the criteria established by the School of Medicine. Strong academic credentials are preferred.
