Baystate Health seeks a new Senior Director of Laboratory Services to provide strategic and operational leadership across pathology and laboratory services. Leading a team of over 350, the new Senior Director will provide executive-level leadership and management oversight for Baystate Health Lab Division, Pathology Baystate Medical Practice and Baystate Health partnership with Labcorp.
Based in Springfield, MA, Baystate Health (BH) is a five-hospital, not-for-profit, integrated academic health system serving over 800,000 people across western New England. With roots dating to the founding of Springfield Hospital in 1883, BH has been providing high-quality, compassionate healthcare to the region for over 140 years. With an annual budget of over $3B, the health system includes approximately 1,000 beds, 13,000 employees, 1,500 physicians, and 640 advanced practice professionals. Across all sites, BH processes over 3.5M tests annually.
Reporting to the Vice President of Clinical Services with a dotted line to the Chair of Pathology, the next Senior Director will develop and implement strategic plans, establish effective relationships with administrative leaders and medical staff, facilitate revenue growth and cost containment, and maintain and improve laboratory services’ overall quality and financial performance. The new leader will drive and implement initiatives and inspire team members to reach their full potential.
The Senior Director will create an environment that fosters physician and staff collaboration and inclusiveness and consistent promotion of BH operating principles. This is an onsite role based in Springfield, MA.
The successful Senior Director of Laboratory Services candidate will:
- Promote direct, open, and honest communication within areas of responsibility; develop and maintain strong and effective relationships with medical staff, senior leadership, and staff personnel. They will encourage the team to achieve higher levels of performance and accountability.
- Design, implement, and manage a safe, high-quality, and effective laboratory system.
- Emphasize and embrace the BH Daily Management System to improve patient safety.
- Leverage teams and data to improve the overall quality of health care BH provides.
- Attract and recruit top talent, and develop a workforce that is provided with challenging growth opportunities.
The preferred candidate will possess five or more years of progressive healthcare leadership experience. A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.
